Quick Answer

MIDI Drum Patterns is a free collection of editable MIDI files for FL Studio on Windows. It includes hi-hat roll patterns, trap drum grooves, drill rhythms and beginner beat starters that open directly in the FL Studio Piano Roll for full editing.

What Are MIDI Drum Patterns?

MIDI drum patterns are digital sequence files that contain note data — pitch, timing and velocity — without any audio. When you open a MIDI file in FL Studio on Windows, the Piano Roll shows each drum hit as a note that you can move, delete, extend or copy. MIDI patterns give you full control because you can edit every aspect of the beat after loading it.

Because MIDI contains no audio, you pair the MIDI pattern with your own drum samples in FL Studio Sampler channels or FPC. The MIDI triggers the samples at the timing and velocity specified in the file.

This MIDI drum pack includes ready-to-use patterns for common modern production styles in FL Studio on Windows.

  • Hi-hat roll MIDI — 16th-note, triplet and 32nd-note rolls
  • Trap drum MIDI — kick, snare and hat grooves at 140 BPM
  • Drill MIDI — syncopated bounce patterns at 140 to 150 BPM
  • Beginner groove MIDI — simple 8-beat and 16-beat patterns
  • Full drum arrangement MIDI — kick, snare, hat and perc together

How to Use MIDI Patterns in FL Studio

In FL Studio on Windows, go to File then Open and select a MIDI pattern file, or drag the MIDI file directly into the playlist. FL Studio will create a new Pattern block with the MIDI data inside. Double-click the pattern to open it in the Piano Roll where you can edit every note.

To use the MIDI pattern with your own drum samples, make sure each MIDI note pitch corresponds to a loaded sample in your Channel Rack. The General MIDI standard maps kick to C1, snare to D1 and hi-hat to F1 and G1 for reference, but you can remap freely in FL Studio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drag the MIDI file into the FL Studio playlist or Channel Rack. FL Studio creates a new pattern with the MIDI data. Open the pattern in the Piano Roll by double-clicking. You can then edit each note or assign different drum samples to the MIDI note pitches.
In FL Studio, MIDI note C5 is the default note for triggering a Sampler channel. You can remap which MIDI note triggers which sample by adjusting the Sampler channel note range and root note settings. General MIDI maps kick to note 36.
Yes. MIDI drum patterns are fully editable in FL Studio Piano Roll. You can move, copy, delete, extend or velocity-adjust any note in the pattern. This is the main advantage of MIDI over pre-rendered audio loops.
Velocity in MIDI represents how hard a note is played — from 1 (very soft) to 127 (maximum). In drum patterns, velocity gives hits dynamics and human feel. Lower velocity hi-hat notes create ghost hat texture; higher velocity notes create accent hits.
